HITTITE RECORDS: IS HISSARLIK THE REAL TROY?
In the previous ancient source, we investigated the differences between Herodotus' and Homer's accounts of the reasons for the Trojan War.
For 200 years during the late Bronze Age, the Hittite Empire and the the Mycenaeans engaged with a great city named Wilusa, somewhere in western Anatolia (Turkey). If Wilusa is the city found in the Hissarlik Mound, then this could be the strongest case for Hissarlik being Troy.
In examining ancient Hittite records, we will not be analysing reasons for the start of the war. We will be analysing ancient Hittite evidence, to determine whether or not the city of Troy was in fact a city called Wilusa in the Hissarlik Mound.
